A Day of Giving: Making an Impact Before Thanksgiving

Dec 9, 2024

The Tuesday before Thanksgiving, Project REBUILD spent a full day giving back to our community. From distributing diapers to sorting toys and packing food for kids, our team came together to make a difference. Here’s a look at what we accomplished and how our members felt about the experience:

Distributing Over 100,000 Diapers

We kicked off the day with the Heart of Ohio Diaper Bank, helping distribute over 100,000 diapers to organizations serving families in need.

Angalena shared, “Helping pass the diapers to the people made me feel connected to the cause. It was my first time at the diaper bank, and I liked it—it’s a good experience.”

Another member added, “Even though it was mostly just moving work, it’s important for the distribution process. Seeing how excited people were to help made it special.”

Sorting Toys for the Salvation Army Toy Shop

Next, we headed to the Salvation Army in Canton to prep for their Toy Shop, unloading, sorting, and displaying toys that will bring joy to children during the holidays.

Dontario reflected, “Sorting out the toys made me feel connected because we’re giving to kids in need—definitely making a difference. It was cool knowing we helped.”

One member added, “Seeing the toys come together made me think about how many kids will have a better Christmas because of this.”

Packing Food Backpacks for Kids

We ended the day at the Stark Hunger Task Force’s first-ever Backpack-A-Thon, where we packed backpacks with food for children who might otherwise go hungry.

One member shared, “It felt great to know these backpacks will go to kids who really need them. Just thinking about that—it’s huge.”

Another noted, “Hanging out with friends and working as a team made it feel less like a chore and more like we were part of something bigger.”

Why This Day Matters

This Day of Giving was about more than volunteering—it was about building connections and creating positive change in our community. As one member put it, “Being with Project REBUILD and working as a team made it meaningful. It felt good to know we were helping people who need it.”

We’re grateful to the Heart of Ohio Diaper Bank, the Salvation Army, and the Stark Hunger Task Force for the chance to make a difference. Together, we’re building stronger communities and brighter futures.
